Description:
Addiction involves complex processes that are only partially understood. There are approximately 49 million Americans living with addiction. Research continues to reveal more and more about the mechanisms that drive addictions and with the evidence based results we have today, we could save countless lives.
This workshop will examine those physiological factors involved in addiction and their connection to the psychological aspect and social influences not just of an individual but the effect on a nation.
Objectives:
Presenter: Dr. Kym Leonard, DNP-BC, CMAC
Dr. Kym Leonard, DNP-BC, CMAC, is a Board-Certified Doctor of Nursing Practice who partners with local, national, and international governments and communities to bring awareness to mental/behavioral health, addiction medicine and primary care. Dr. Kym works in private practice. Having an entrepreneurial mindset, she serves as a business counsel to other healthcare providers and clinicians. This includes guidance in startups, structuring and maintaining success in business and career choices.
Dr. Kym is the founder of GKM Training Institute (GKMTI.Com) a nationally accredited school that offers courses in two divisions: Addiction Counseling and School of Ministry. She is a published co-author in the Johns Hopkins Medical Journal (Bariatric Nursing and Surgical Patient Care 06/2008; 3(2):93-100); and has authored two counseling books.
Dr. Kym holds a degree in Clinical Psychology; two master's degrees: 1. Education and 2. Leadership; and her Post Master's in Family Nurse Practitioner hails from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. Her doctorate degree is from Chamberlain University in Illinois. She also holds a Master Addiction Counseling Certification.
