This workshop explores common co-occurring disorders, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and bipolar disorder. Participants will examine how these conditions may interact with substance use, recognize common symptoms and clinical considerations, and explore integrated, person-centered approaches to supporting individuals with co-occurring disorders.

Learning objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify common signs, symptoms, and clinical characteristics associated with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and bipolar disorder among individuals with substance use disorders.
  2. Examine the complex relationship between substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions and its impact on assessment, treatment planning, and recovery.
  3. Apply integrated, person-centered strategies to support clients with co-occurring disorders through appropriate treatment planning, collaboration, and referral.
